A number of speakers lined up for Kirkcudbright History Society
Kirkcudbright History Society will begin its new season on Wednesday, October 9 when James Wolffe, the former Lord Advocate, will present an intriguing account of a 19th century land dispute between Gatehouse residents and the Cally Estate.
The season continues with monthly talks covering a wide range of local history.
Following last year’s popular study of local houses, November’s speakers will introduce two very different homes; a Millburn Street cottage and Cumstoun House.

December will take members much further away – to Cambodia, where a former Kirkcudbright Academy Dux died in mysterious circumstances under Pol Pot’s regime.
The 2025 meetings will return much nearer home: to the Kirkcudbright branch line railway; the history of the Kirkcudbright Lifeboat; and a study of the many local monasteries and nunneries.
Meetings are held in Kirkcudbright Parish Church Hall at 7.30pm on the second Wednesday of each month.
Those further afield can also attend by Zoom.
Visitors are always welcome at a cost of £3 per meeting.
The full programme and details of annual membership are available on application to the Secretary at khsoffice44@gmail.com.
