Early Sunday morning shoppers were surprised and puzzled when a group of nuns danced their way through the town centre.

But their faces changed from puzzlement to smiles and laughter when they realised it was all for a photo call to promote a theatrical production.

Trowbridge Musical Theatre brought humour to the town’s Fore Street when the cast of Sister Act visited.

Director Sarah Harris said: “We wanted to have pictures to capture the spirit of the beloved film. The Musical is a joyous celebration of the power of music, friendship, and the transformative journey of self-discovery."

The iconic Sister Act story is set in the vibrant backdrop of 1970s Philadelphia and follows the journey of Deloris Van Cartier - a sassy and ambitious nightclub singer with dreams of fame and fortune.

Deloris' life takes an unexpected turn when she witnesses a murder committed by her mobster boyfriend, Curtis.

Fearing for her life, Deloris seeks refuge in the last place anyone would think to look for her - a struggling convent – and under the guise of ‘Sister Mary Clarence’, she adapts to the strict rules and routines of convent life.

When Deloris discovers the lacklustre state of the convent's choir, she sees an opportunity to inject some much-needed energy and enthusiasm into their performances.

Sister Act opens on Wednesday, May 29 running to Saturday, June 1 at St Augustine Catholic College.
