The Nutcracker and The Four Realms trailer: Disney gives first look at Keira Knightley as Sugar Plum Fairy

Disney has dropped the first trailer for The Nutcracker and The Four Realms, the latest in a line of live-action films.

From the same studio as Beauty and the Beast, which starred Emma Watson and Dan Stevens, the Christmas spirit has definitely come early with Lasse Hallström and Joe Johnston’s reimagination of the classic tale.

The film stars Mackenzie Foy as Clara, a girl desperately seeking a key to unlock a priceless possession of her late mother’s after being led into a mysterious world by a golden thread given to her by her godfather, played by Morgan Freeman.

Along the way, Clara meets the Sugar Plum Fairy – played by Keira Knightley – and tyrannical Mother Ginger, played by Dame Helen Mirren.

Billed for release on November 2, The Nutcracker and The Four Realms is sure to be unlike no other reproduction of E.T.A. Hoffman's story-turned Tchaikovsky ballet.

As well as the clip, Disney also released the official poster for the film.

The trailer comes months after Disney released the first look at Dumbo, spearheaded by Tim Burton.

The film, starring Colin Farrell, Danny DeVito, Michael Keaton and Eva Green as they recreate the magical moment an outcast, big-eared elephant becomes an unlikely star because of his flying ability.

Along with the short trailer, Disney released the first poster for the film revealing a March 2019 release date, believed to be towards the end of the month.
