There have been whisperings of it for a while, but it now seems that that the Obi-Wan Kenobi solo movie might officially be happening. (We are stressing that 'might' here, though.)

If the news is true – and we really hope it is – then we're going to have to be patient, young padawans, as any spin-off isn't expected to start production until 2019.

Following on from The Hollywood Reporter's claims that Lucasfilm have started development on an Obi-Wan-centric movie, Omega Underground appear to have found some info that backs that up.

According to a production source, Lucasfilm are expecting the film to begin shooting at Pinewood Studios in London in January 2019, with Stephen Daldry on board to direct.

It's also believed that the feature's working title is Joshua Tree, a nod to where A New Hope's Tattooine scenes are filmed.

We're not entirely sure what's going on here, but we can most definitely sense a disturbance in the Force.

If an Obi-Wan Kenobi spin-off is all systems go, then it's looking likely that Ewan McGregor will be reprising his role as the legendary Jedi master.

"There's no official offer, and I haven't met them about it or anything," he recently admitted. "But I've always said that I'd be happy to do it if they wanted to do it.

"It would be a good segue between the last episode of the prequels and the new episodes."

Speaking of those new episodes, Star Wars: The Last Jedi is released in UK cinemas on December 14, with US cinemas following the next day on December 15.
