Octopus Energy issues key message to customers who qualify for £150 payment
Low-income households eligible for winter support have been informed that this year the payments will be made automatically. Those who qualify for the Warm Home Discount scheme from their energy supplier will see £150 deducted from their energy bills during a single period between October and March.
In previous years, pensioners have received the discount without any action on their part, while other households have had to apply. Moving forward, this will no longer be necessary as these low-income households will be identified via the benefits they receive and the specifics of their living arrangements, ensuring they meet two key conditions: low income and high energy usage.
Energy companies will determine eligibility by looking at both the household's financial situation and energy expenses. Nonetheless, not every claimant of benefits such as Universal Credit, Income Support or Housing Benefits will qualify for the discount.
The Warm Home Discount is designed to allow those who are eligible to save money on their utility costs, freeing up funds for other essentials, Birmingham Live reports.
The exact timing of the discount is at the discretion of the energy suppliers and could occur at any point from October to March. Qualifying individuals will receive letters detailing the process.
Octopus Energy confirmed that "You no longer need to complete an application form from your energy supplier. Eligible customers will be identified based on Low Income Criteria and High Energy Costs Criteria."
"The qualifying date for meeting these criteria is August 11, 2024. The criteria to qualify for this scheme are:".
