Octopuses Make Quick Getaway After Being Surprised by Stingray

A pair of mating octopuses had to make a quick getaway when surprised by a stingray at Port Phillip Bay, Victoria, recently.

Footage taken by PT Hirschfield shows the octopuses fleeing from the large stingray as it approaches them. But they quickly pick up where they left off before the rude interruption.

“I was scuba diving and came across two huge Maori octopuses mating in the sea grass,” Hirschfield told Storyful.

“A massive stingray tried to prey upon them but they escaped by swimming up onto the sea wall where they continued mating,” she said. Credit: PT Hirschfield via Storyful
