If there's one word that summarised 2019's style aesthetic, it would have to be beige. Instagram went wild for the shade, with feeds filling up with earthy-hued snapshots. Meanwhile at fashion week, the pavements were strewn with stripped-back ensembles in 50 shades of, you guessed it, beige. Now, I'm going to sound very "fashion" right now, but 2020 has seen a shift in the colour-trend stakes, and we're seeing a new hue come to the fore. This autumn, it's all about pale beige. (To quote The Devil Wears Prada, "It's a tough call. They're so different.")
The trick is to apply the same principles as you did to last year's deeper shades of beige. Head-to-toe is the way to go. We've seen so many influencers donning suits and separates in the palest shade of beige in the run-up to September, and we're relishing the lightness it's bringing to a season usually dominated by darker hues. Also, as luck would have it, this paler offering will blend perfectly with your 2019 pieces, and you can create a chic tonal effect by throwing them all together.
Joseph is the place to go for luxe neutrals this autumn and winter, and we love the idea of wearing the brand's plissé knit skirt over tailored trousers and heeled boots for an unusual spin on cold-weather layering. On the high street, & Other Stories has started to drip-feed us some delectable autumnal buys in its new-in section, and we've got our eye on the asymmetric blazer, which will look so good with jeans and a colour-match roll-neck. So if you're in need of inspo, scroll down to see how our fave fashion girls are styling this trend, and shop our pale-beige edit.

Pernille Teisbaek combines two of this autumn's biggest trends in this chic look: knitted dresses and pale beige.
