The Ofsted-approved West London school where attendance is high and pupils grow their own food
A West London primary school where students learn about the importance of ‘safety, caring, achievement, resilience and friendship' has been praised by Ofsted in its latest report. Highfield Primary School in Hillingdon has a high attendance record and pupils there even grow their own food.
Ofsted said that the primary school has taken 'effective action to maintain the standards identified at the previous inspection' where the school was called 'good' based on the old metrics of Ofsted approval ratings.
Nowadays, Ofsted do not give one word answers for their approval ratings on schools. Instead, they apply the previous rating system (Outstanding, Good, Requires Improvement and Inadequate) to five sub-categories to assess the school competence.

In the most recent assessment of the school carried out by Ofsted, the assessors said that the school sets high expectations which the children responded to and try to live up to those expectations. They even said that the students behaviour and attitudes are excellent, which helps in lessons.
Highfield is said to prioritise reading and install the pupils with the confidence required to read. They give them many opportunities to develop this.
The school has recognised that there is some work to do on this to make it strong across the board but the children are benefitting from the approach. The report praised how teachers 'promote high-quality conversations in classrooms, which helps with the children's learning.
The report also praises how well the school prepares the students for life after year six. They are taught the importance of physical and mental health and also communication of feelings from an early age. There are opportunities to take part in a 'broad range' of clubs and can even grow seasonal food on the school grounds.
Ofsted did point out that the school needs to improve the cuticulum in a small number of subjects, where 'some pupils do not build on their knowledge and skills over time as well as they could'.
Highfield Primary School is on Charville Lane West, Hillingdon, Uxbridge, UB10 0DB.
