These 16 Watford primary and secondary schools had Ofsted reports published in 2022, with 13 rated ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’.

'Outstanding'

Alban Wood Primary School and Nursery was the only school with a Watford address to be found ‘outstanding’ last year.

Subject leaders were knowledgeable, adults regularly check pupils’ learning in lessons, and all pupils make good progress and achieve well.

'Requires improvement'

Stanborough Primary School had the worst possible Ofsted rating for three years prior to an inspection last year.

It shook off its ‘inadequate’ tag but still ‘requires improvement’, inspectors concluded.

Head teacher Tiann Madden said “our journey is only just beginning and we are excited to implement further changes”.

Ofsted found a “significant proportion” of pupils’ behaviour at Future Academies Watford is “unacceptable”.

Principal Deborah Warwick responded that improvements have already been made and upon reinspection inspectors will see “the fantastic school with amazing young people and staff”.

'Good'

Special School Garston Manor School continues to be 'good' after a report published on December 13. The report said pupils "love" their school and the opportunities it offers them.

Two secondary schools were found to be good.

Croxley Danes School opened in 2017 and after nearly five years the school was finally inspected by Ofsted last year and told "the work has paid off".

In 2022, 11 primary schools were given a ‘good’ rating, below are some of the comments Ofsted inspectors made about them.

“Being thoughtful and kind to everyone they meet is a noticeable feature of the pupils” at Watford Field School.

Parents were “overwhelmingly positive” at Beechfield School and Woodhall Primary School, and at Bromet Primary School they “appreciate the school’s caring ethos”.

Formerly ‘inadequate’ Gurukula, the Hare Krishna Primary School, and formerly ‘requires improvement’ Greenfields Primary School turned themselves around under new management.

Ofsted thought Warren Dell Primary School could be judged ‘outstanding’ at its next inspection.

Cherry Tree Primary School pupils “are proud of their school environment” and at The Orchard Primary School they “can be themselves”.

Pupils at Kingsway Junior School were praised for their respect, kindness, and empathy, and at Oxhey Wood Primary School inspectors noticed how they listen and enjoy their work.
