Clinking beer steins, Oompah bands and lederhosen return to Surrey for Guildford’s Oktoberfest. Drinkers will be able to soak up the German atmosphere once again as they celebrate the popular event.

The event at Stoke Park, on Saturday, October 12, offers traditional folk music to modern ‘Oompop’ performed by live Oompah bands. There will also be support bands and DJs to provide entertainment throughout the day.

Accompanying the music, Oktoberfest will be serving traditional German grub including bratwurst and pretzels. Drink offerings will include gigantic 2 pint beer steins, cider, spirits and wine - visitors must be over 18 at the time of the event.

The first Oktoberfest took place in Munich in 1810 to celebrate the royal marriage of Prince Ludwig to Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen. It has now grown to attract millions of people to the city every year.

Compared to the extensive 18 days of festivities held in Germany, the Guildford edition will be broken into two Saturday sessions. The first will take place from 12pm -5pm, and will be followed by an evening session from 6pm -11pm.

Tom Cullen, Oktoberfest’s marketing manager said: “We can’t wait to bring Oktoberfest back to Guildford for another year. With Saturday VIP already fully sold out, expect more singing, dancing, beer and food than ever before."

Anyone who is excited to dust off their lederhosen still can, as both seated and standing tickets are available for both the afternoon and the evening sessions. Complimentary tickets for personal assistants to deaf and disabled ticket holders are available on application.
