The Old Guard comic book creator Greg Rucka has confirmed "discussions" have taken place about a Netflix movie sequel.

Starring Mad Max: Fury Road's Charlize Theron as Andy (Andromache of Scythia), a member of an immortal team of mercenaries, the first adaptation of The Old Guard was released on the streaming platform last month.

It went on to break a number of viewing records in its first four weeks.

In conversation with Discussing Film, Rucka was quizzed on a possible follow-up, where he explained: "There have been discussions, nothing is confirmed, and I don't think there will be a decision made as to whether or not another one is in the offering for a while yet.

"If they decide to do another one, I am absolutely there for it. One of the things that I do like about the movie is that while the film has what I call a 'In case of sequel, break glass' scene, the movie does not demand a sequel.

"It's not a story where you reach the end and they've actually hit an end," he continued.

Pre-Order Now The Old Guard Book Two: Force Multiplied

Rucka went on to say he'd "be looking to the heart and soul of [upcoming comic book sequel] Force Multiplied" as the baseline for the next movie.

"It is much more about the characters internalised, really, and about the conflicts," he added.

"It opens up questions about the mythology that in the initial story I didn't want to be bothered with, and that in a second story it felt like, 'Yeah, we have to start addressing it'."

The Old Guard is streaming on Netflix.
