The Old Vic will stage a free performance of forthcoming show Mood Music to celebrate its bicentenary.

Audience members on May 11, the theatre’s 200th birthday, who will win tickets via a ballot, will receive a special memento and birthday cake and be invited to take part in a group photo.

May 12 will see the theatre host a Variety Night, transforming the auditorium into a cabaret space and welcoming acts including BBC Radio 4 comedy duo The Pin and performances from the stars of upcoming Suffragette hip hop musical Sylvia.

Celebrations over the weekend of May 12-13 include a street party, complete with marching band, street performers, puppetry workshops and a stage make-up presentation.

Showtime Photo Booth will also present their GIF photo booth to help guests capture memories of the day in action.

The Bicentenary Open House celebrations will also include special events for children, including a “Comedy Club 4 Kids” and a Children’s Bookshow.

The weekend will conclude with an already sold-out fundraising ball.
