Fears are growing for a young schoolboy who disappeared after becoming separated from his family during a town centre shopping trip.

Despite flooding a town centre with police and contracting scores of shop staff no sign has been found on 10-year-old Oliver Sayer.

The primary school pupil has never gone missing before and detectives said they were very concerned about his disappearance because of very young age.

The child, who looks younger than his 10 years, is pictured here and police appealed for the public to look out for him in case he had wandered to the borders of the town centre.

It was understood that Oliver, a pupil of Southfield Park Primary School, in Epsom, had gone shopping with his family when they became separated shortly after noon on Saturday.

Police were quickly contacted when no immediate sign could be found of the youngster and reinforcements were drafted into the upmarket Surrey town as time moved.

A spokesman for Surrey Police said that concerns were growing as Oliver had been missing for more than four hours and there had been no sighting of him.

"We are appealing for the public's help in finding Oliver," said the spokesman. "A number of inquiries are taking place to try to locate missing Oliver who was last seen in Epsom town centre at around 12.30pm today.

"The 10-year-old is described as being white, around 5ft 4ins tall and having dark brown hair. He was last seen wearing a black coat with a fur lined hood, a pirate print top, skinny jeans and camouflaged high-top footwear.

"Anyone who has seen Oliver or has any information on his current location should call Surrey Police immediately on 101, quoting reference P17070325, or contact the charity Missing People by calling or texting 116 000.
