Olivia Colman has made an impassioned plea to save the oceans.

Writing in the Evening Standard, the star of The Crown demands action “on a global scale” to protect sealife threatened by pollution, over-fishing and climate change.

Colman, who voices an endangered sea turtle in a new animated short for Greenpeace by Wallace and Gromit creators Aardman, said marine habitats are being destroyed “at a rate never before witnessed”.

The actress is backing a proposed Global Ocean Treaty which is under discussion at the United Nations.

Dame Helen Mirren also voices a role in the short film.
