Olivia Colman Joins Forces with Jonathan Van Ness for a Truly Magical Harry Potter Reading

Olivia Colman, Jonathan Van Ness and Harry Potter—these are a few of our favorite things. And happily, we can now enjoy them all at once.

The Oscar-winning actress and the Queer Eye star read the seventh chapter of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone as part of “Harry Potter At Home,” a free online collection of child-friendly activities.

The two stars are following in the footsteps of previous guest-narrators Daniel Radcliffe, Stephen Fry and Eddie Redmayne. And that’s not all—Saturday Night Live star and imaginary bestie Kate McKinnon joined in on the fun too.

While Colman does most of the heavy lifting, Van Ness's reading of the Sorting Hat’s song is positively delightful. And McKinnon’s rendition of the Hogwarts school song will, as you might expect, leave you in stitches.

While Colman hasn't appeared in Harry Potter or any of the wizarding world spin-offs, she’s not a complete stranger to JK Rowling’s magical universe. When Colman she took over the role of Queen Elizabeth in The Crown, she became costars with Helena Bonham Carter (who played Bellatrix Lestrange, the righthand woman to Harry's nemesis, Lord Voldemort). Perhaps this reading will convince the powers at be that Colman would fit right in at Hogwarts—rumor has it that Harry Potter and the Cursed Child may one day make it onto the big screen.

Check out the chapter video on the Wizarding World website or listen to the audio version on Spotify.
