The Crown star Olivia Colman's new true crime drama Landscapers has unveiled a first-look trailer, as well as a release date.

The upcoming HBO and Sky Atlantic series sees Colman and Harry Potter's David Thewlis star as Susan and Christopher Edwards, who kill her parents and bury them in the back yard, getting away with it for 15 years.

In the trailer, events become increasingly fraught as we see their mild-mannered characters in police custody, mixing in elements of their fantasy world as they try to escape from the reality around them.

Landscapers, which is inspired by real events, has been described as a mix of murder mystery and surrealist fantasy, and will be released in full on December 7.

The synopsis reads: "Husband and wife Susan and Christopher have been on the run from reality for over 15 years.

"When Christopher makes a startling call home to his stepmother, their role in a terrible crime that remained undiscovered for over a decade begins to emerge into the light.

"As their relationship is subjected to the glare of a full police investigation, the devoted couple are separated for the first time in their marriage."

Thewlis previously said of joining the show: "This is without doubt the very finest project I have worked on for many years.

"Everything about Landscapers is magical, there is nothing like it, and I'm impatient to get to work so that its brilliance can be shared with the rest of the world."

The trailer comes after a first look at Colman's upcoming Netflix film The Lost Daughter was released, the film co-starring Fifty Shades of Grey's Dakota Johnson, Normal People's Paul Mescal, Chernobyl's Jessie Buckley, and Westworld's Ed Harris.

Landscapers will premiere on HBO and Sky Atlantic on December 7.
