Olivia Newton-John has revealed that she is "grateful" for her cancer battle.

The Grease star was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992 on the same weekend as her father died.

"I am grateful for the experience because without it I would not have done many of the things I have done in my life," she told Radio Times. "It's taught me compassion for those going through difficult times."

Since recovering, Olivia has donated proceeds from some of her album sales to cancer charities and also walked along the Great Wall of China to raise funds for breast cancer research.

It's not the first time she's reflected on her cancer battle, revealing that she was happier than ever after what she went through.

"Life is full of valleys and peaks and everybody has them. Everyone goes through loss and pain and it's all part of life," Olivia explained. "For me, I just became more grateful for every day. It's all icing on the cake now."

Last year, she joked about the cheery fan theory that Sandy in Grease was actually dead the whole time, or at the very least dying.

"Well, I laughed. I thought it was hilarious. I thought it was also wonderful that people were still talking about it," Olivia admitted, adding that if it were true, they "were the first zombie musical". "We look pretty good considering."

Co-writer Jim Jacobs doesn't believe in the theory either, nothing that whoever made it up "must have been on acid".
