Arsene Wenger has revealed that Olivier Giroud wants to stay and fight for his place at Arsenal.

Giroud started only 11 League games last term and the arrival of Alexandre Lacazette for a club-record fee has bumped him down the pecking order ahead of the new campaign.

Arsenal are open to selling Giroud and set a £20m asking price with Everton, Borussia Dortmund, Marseille and West Ham all interested.

But the 30-year-old has his sights set on staying at Emirates Stadium and pushing Lacazette for a place in the side.

Wenger said: “Giroud fancies the competition. As a manager, you have him on your back, wanting to play.

“He fights hard, you know. I like the way he responds to what’s happening. He is focused and determined and showed that on the (pre-season) tour."

Meanwhile, Wenger claims PSG have ended their pursuit of Alexis Sanchez to focus on a world-record £196m deal for Barcelona's Neymar.
