Day eight of the Olympic Games in Tokyo sees Dina Asher-Smith chase a medal in the women’s 100m as the athletics programme continues. The semi-finals will take place in the early hours before the final at 1.30pm BST. Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is the favourite but there were plenty of quick times in the heats and there will be stiff competition for Asher-Smith.

The Olympic Stadium will also host the discuss final (from 12.15pm) as well as a mixed 4x400m relay.

The triathlon mixed relay makes its Olympic debut (from 11.30pm BST Friday) and Great Britain are expected to right in the mix after impressing in both the men’s and women’s events, with silver medals for Alex Yee and Georgia Taylor-Brown.

In the pool there are plenty of medals to be handed out, with the men’s 100m butterfly and men’s 4x100m relay (3.35am), where Adam Peaty and co should provide a strong challenge.

There are also men’s football quarter-finals, the women’s rugby 7s final, and sailing and shooting finals. Emma Wilson is guaranteed a medal and is going for gold.
