If you missed it at the cinema, now's your chance to catch up on one of the best British movies of the year.

Timestalker – written, directed and starring Alice Lowe – is now available to buy or rent from Prime Video, iTunes, Microsoft Store and other digital retailers in the UK.

The historical sci-fi rom-com centres on the lovelorn Agnes (Lowe) who becomes obsessed with a dodgy preacher called Alex (Aneurin Barnard) in 1688, just as he's about to be executed.

As Timestalker jumps through the eras, including 1790s rural England and 1980s Manhattan, Agnes constantly finds herself drawn to that era's Alex. But are they destined to be together... or is Alex is a bit of a douchebag?

Timestalker also stars Jacob Anderson, Tanya Reynolds, Nick Frost and Kate Dickie. As with Lowe and Barnard's characters, expect to see multiple versions of them as Agnes finds herself reincarnated again and again.

The movie – which debuted with 100% on Rotten Tomatoes and still holds a strong 88% rating – marks Lowe's second as writer-director, following 2016's brilliant slasher Prevenge which is available to watch now on Prime Video.

Talking to Digital Spy ahead of Timestalker's cinema release last month, Lowe explained why it's not as much of a challenge to star in a movie that she's also directing.

"I feel like it's a shortcut because I'm not having to explain to someone what I want – I'm just doing it. The other actors come in and they see me just doing it and then they just join in," she reflected.

"It cuts out a certain part of the process for me that I'm like, 'Oh god, imagine if I was having to explain this to someone'. Sometimes, I might struggle to explain it. I've started to realise that a lot of my work is based on blind faith, really."
