A Coventry suburb has been included among the best places to live in the West Midlands. Earlsdon, in the south-west of the city, has a long held reputation both as a well-to-do residential area and a top residential spot for students.

The tourism and lifestyle website Muddy Stilettos names it the third best place to live in the West Midlands, behind Bournville and Hampton-In-Arden, the latter of which topped the list.

The suburb was praised for its proximity to central Coventry, as well as the two universities. Close proximity to the train station, city centre and War Memorial Park (which hosts Godiva Festival each year) was also commended.

Muddy Stilettos also mentioned property prices with an average of £275,494. Most sales were terraced properties which went for an average price of £227,879, while semi-detached properties sold for an average of £438,582.

The survey also mentioned close proximity to schools, with King Henry VIII School, Bablake, and Pattison College all close by. “The majority of state primaries are rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted with Eden Girls’ School, an Islamic faith-based secondary, Finham Park and Sidney Stringer Academy all rated ‘Outstanding’. Also within reach of ‘Outstanding’ Kenilworth School and Sixth Form and there are several ‘Good’ secondary schools nearby.”

Moreover, they praised the food options, saying that “in the family-friendly/studenty suburb of Earlsdon, there’s Pan-Asian restaurant Street and fine dining from Earlsdon Supper Club – a zero-waste BYO experience by Chef of the Year 2021 & 2022 winner Tobias Reutt. There’s The Farmhouse restaurant too for British and Kashmiri dining and shisha.”

They also named the areas “best kept secret” to be the Grade II-listed War Memorial Park. They describe it as “a vast expanse of green 2.5 miles outside of the city centre” and mention that the area is transformed for the annual Godiva Festival.

The survey also looked at the wider Warwickshire area, with the top 10 destinations to live heavily focused on the southern part of the county. Leamington Spa, Warwick, and Shipston-on-Stour all took the top three places, in descending order.

Atherstone was the only North Warwickshire town or village to make the top 10, thanks to its “local independents, beautiful walks nearby, and the rowdiest ball game around” - referring to the annual antics on Shrove Tuesday.
