Bosses behind the BRIT Awards are reportedly planning to pay a special tribute to the late Liam Payne. The former ITV The X Factor star's death last October left fans around the world devastated.

But those behind the popular awards show are said to be in talks to honour the singer later this year. It could mean that his former One Direction bandmates Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson might reunite on stage.

The last time the four remaining bandmates were seen together was at Payne's funeral in November. But they have not performed together since they went their separate ways 10 years ago.

A source told The Sun: "The tribute to Liam at this year’s awards show has caused a real buzz and speculation that the remaining One Direction bandmates could finally come back together again on stage. It would be an entirely fitting way to honour Liam and talks are already under way about how to make this segment of the Brits unforgettable."

The source said that Payne, 31, had performed many times at the BRIT Awards and will 'forever be part of the show’s history'. Plans to honour the dad-of-one are said to be in the 'very early stages'.

The source added: "As well as the possibility of the One Direction lads being involved, other stars from the industry will be on hand to remember Liam on the night." This year's BRIT Awards will be hosted by Jack Whitehall and will take place at the O2 Arena, in London, on March 1.

Payne - who shared son Bear with Girls Aloud star Cheryl Cole - won seven Brits with One Direction. He also performed twice with the band and twice as a solo artist at the awards show.

The late singer, from Wolverhampton, was in Buenos Aires, Argentina, when he fell from the balcony of his third-floor hotel room. An inquest opening confirmed his medical cause of death as polytrauma - which is when a person sustains multiple traumatic injuries.
