One Direction fans need to brace themselves – a reunion may be about to happen.

The boy band have odds of 1/5 to reunite this year, according to Betfair.

Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson called time on the group in 2016, a year after Zayn Malik announced his departure.

News of a reunion was sparked earlier this week after Payne teased a “fantastic show”.

“You know I think it will happen at some point in the distant future,” he told German news outlet Promiflash. “We’ve all spoken about it and, you know, the dream for this most fantastic show that could be, is amazing.

“With everybody being so successful... It's is so important for us to be able to make that show. And it’s the only way really that One Direction could get any bigger.”

The hashtag #OneDirectionReunion soon began trending as fans, or 'Directioners', struggled to contain their excitement.

Some joked that they were struggling to breathe while others claimed their hearts had been “fixed”.

The five-piece have all launched solo careers following the band's split with Styles, Horan and Malik all releasing albums.
