Gardening has so many benefits. The obvious one is that investing time in your garden means you have a more attractive place to relax or play when the sun shines, and tending to fruit and vegetables helps save money and means you can have delicious veg on tap (plus feel smug about yourself forever more).

Then there are the less obvious benefits, like the fact that gardening is proven to help lower anxiety and stress, that being out in the fresh air is good for us, and creating welcoming spaces for insects and animals is always a bonus for the planet.

But it isn't all roses.

Anyone who has spent time gardening will know that for every 15 minutes you spend getting down and dirty in the soil, you then must spend an extra 45 minutes picking dirt out of your fingernails or digging it out of the gap between your finger and your rings.

Or, at least that's what I find.

Plus then there's all the outlay on garden equipment that you then have to lug around with you and clean off as well.

So, being part of the impatient, internet-savvy Millennial brigade, I decided that I didn't have to put up with living this way, and so I went online and bought myself a pair of Garden Genie Gloves with Claws.

Yep, you read that right - gardening gloves with their own claws attached.

Gardening gloves are nothing new, but gardening gloves that mean you can dig without a tool and deadhead flowers with just your thumb and forefinger? I thought they were pretty revolutionary.

Each pack, which costs £8.99, comes with two pairs and four durable plastic claws attached to each. They're waterproof and puncture resistant too, so all you need to do is pull them on and you're ready to hit the beds.

The breathable design protects your hands from dirt and sweat, so you don't get that weird icky feeling as you peel them off, and you just need to rinse and leave to dry for your next gardening session.

Not only did they save me time, they also make you feel superhuman - how often can a human say they have their very own set of functioning claws? Hardly ever.

I can't say that my garden looks any better for having them, but my hands certainly do.
