One of only two routes off Canvey Island shuts after major two-vehicle crash near Benfleet Station
One of the only ways off an Essex island is blocked after a two-vehicle crash this morning (November 19). Essex Police are attending the scene of the incident on Canvey Road on Canvey Island.
The incident has taken place near Benfleet Railway Station and the road, which is one of two connecting Canvey to the mainland, is closed in the northbound carriageway. The crash took place earlier this morning but the road remains shut while recovery work takes place.
Essex Police have stated no one was injured in the crash, but the road is expected to be shut for some time. A spokesman said: "We are currently at the scene of a two-vehicle collision in Canvey Road. The collision was reported to us at just after 11.15am today (Tuesday 19 November).

"There are no reported injuries, but the road is closed between the Waterside roundabout and Benfleet Station. This closure is only affecting motorists travelling towards the station. We are working with partners to clear the road as soon as possible. We appreciate people’s patience while we work at the scene."
Rebecca Harris, MP for Castle Point, said: "I have been informed about an incident on Canvey Road by Benfleet Bridge and the flood barrier. There are multiple ambulances on the scene and traffic has been stopped both ways for the time being.
"My thoughts are with all those involved. Please share this with anyone you know who is planning to go on or off Canvey in the next hour so they can leave earlier and divert along Canvey Way and keep the area clear for the emergency services."
A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said: "Three ambulances and a paramedic car were sent to Canvey Road, Canvey Island this morning following reports of a road traffic collision. Two patients were assessed at the scene, but no hospital transport was required."
