POLICE are trying to solve the mystery of a crash on the M40.

On Tuesday, Thames Valley Police discovered a man dead inside his car on the central reservation.

Officers had been called to reports that a black Vauxhall Astra was in the middle of the road between junctions 11 and 12.

Investigators now think that the crash happened around 4.20am on Tuesday, April 5 – seven days before the body of the man, who is in his 40s, was discovered.

His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

In a desperate appeal for any witnesses and drivers with dash-cam footage, lead investigator PC Charlie Etheridge, of the Joint Operations Road Policing Unit said: “We are appealing for any witnesses, or motorists who may have dash-cam footage, of the incident to please come forward.

“Although this was reported to us yesterday, we believe it may have happened at around 4.20am on 5 April.

“Anyone who has information or dash-cam footage can make a report by calling 101 or via our website, quoting reference 43220157746.”
