One person taken to hospital after A19 closed southbound in County Durham
One person has been taken to hospital after the A19 was closed southbound in County Durham.
Police and paramedics were called to the A19 in Murton at around 11.49am on Sunday. Motorists faced delays as the southbound carriageway was closed for a number of hours, while the northbound side was closed within the A182 junction.
Durham Constabulary advised drivers to find an alternative route as diversions were put in place. The Great North Air Ambulance was sent to the scene along with paramedics from the North East Ambulance Service, who transferred one person to hospital.

The A19 closure, which has since been partially reopened, was situated southbound between the A1018 and A182. The northbound side was also closed within the A182 junction, with traffic being diverted for a time via the exit and entry slip roads.
After initially being closed from just after 1pm, National Highways North East posted this update on X, around two hours later: "The A19 in County Durham is now OPEN southbound between the A1018 & the A182 (Seaham).
"However 1 lane (of 2) remains closed at this time whilst the incident is ongoing. There is still also a full closure within the A182 junction on the northbound carriageway."
A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We received a call at 11.49 to reports of an incident on the A19 in Murton.
"We sent a rapid response paramedic, a Hazardous Area Response Team, a clinical team leader, air ambulance and two emergency ambulance crews. One patient was taken to hospital for further treatment."
