Pretty Little Liars' all-important Endgame is mere hours away and unfortunately, it looks like one of the show's many unsolved mysteries will remain just that.

A mystery.

Speaking ahead of the series finale tonight (June 27), showrunner I. Marlene King revealed that one long-standing question from within the show's seven seasons will not get an answer.

Instead, fans will be left to "ponder" it themselves for all eternity.

... Great.

"I feel like there's just one outstanding question that we decided to let the fans ponder," King told Vulture.

"And it's more tongue-in-cheek and fun, not really something that's like, Oh my god, we're never going to know this or that."

Hmm. We'll see about that.

After seven seasons on screen, the Liars story is coming to an end as A.D. is finally revealed.

And – thankfully – some other mysteries from series past will also be explained in the season finale 'Til DeAth Do us PArt'.

As well as Charlotte's killer being revealed and Archer's backstory being unmasked, King also confirmed via EW that viewers would find out the father of Emily and Alison's baby, after Alison was artificially inseminated with Emily's eggs in perhaps one of the show's most twisted storylines.

Speaking about the decision to air the controversial story, King added:

"We were all immediately excited about it, but then I was like, 'You know, let's take a 72-hour pause and return to it in a couple of days and see if this is something we want to commit to.'

"We still thought so.

"It was such a violation, yes, but it's been handled in a way that's not to be made light of in any way, shape, and form.

"It's one of the most outrageous and vile things that A.D. has done."

Pretty Little Liars season finale airs tonight (June 27) on Freeform in the US and tomorrow (June 28) on Netflix in the UK.
