To say The One Show's Matt Baker has a Partridge-esque way with words is probably an understatement - and he proved that once again during an interview with Game of Thrones star Kit Harington.

One Show fans are probably still chuckling over Matt's ill-advised joke about "nasal g-strings" being smacked down on air by Jenna Coleman a few weeks ago, but this time he got a telling off for something that wasn't even intentional.

Matt and guest co-presenter Gabby Logan were chatting to Kit about his recent marriage to Rose Leslie, who the actor first romanced on-screen on Game of Thrones.

Stepping in it, Matt asked: "Did you say that your favourite scene in all of Game of Thrones is the one where your current wife actually dies?"

The phrasing and the question itself drew a huge laugh from the studio audience, with Gabby cheekily admonishing her co-host's grim prediction about Kit and Rose's marriage

"By the way, can I just say, current wife?" she corrected Matt. "Your real wife, Kit!"

"Yes, sorry," Matt immediately apologised.

Kit chuckled and then went on to actually answer the question about why his favourite-ever Game of Thrones scene was the death of Rose's character Ygritte.

"Because it was so moving and because she did such an amazing job with it," he explained. "It's one of those moments in the whole thing that I thought was beautiful.

"I didn't like it because she was [killed off]!"

Elsewhere in the interview, Kit Harington did very briefly discuss the upcoming final season of Game of Thrones. Although he stopped short of revealing any spoilers, he promised fans it'd be worth the wait.

"[It took] nine months. It's usually six months," he explained. "We spent a lot longer on less episodes, just because it had to be bigger.

"You know, you're finishing the most epic TV show that there's been. It had to feel like movies on TV. That's what they've done. I'm really excited."

The One Show airs Mondays through Fridays at 7pm.

Game of Thrones season 8 will premiere in 2019. The show airs on HBO in the US and Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in the UK. Season 7 is now available to buy on DVD, Blu-ray or digital download.
