Alex Jones made a surprise announcement about Elton John on Friday night's The One Show.

Right at the start of the show, Alex, alongside co-host Clara Amfo, said: "So many people have been getting in touch, haven't they? Including Elton John, who sent us a message thanking fans after his greatest hits album, Diamond, topped the charts a few hours ago."

She then introduced a clip of the pop legend Elton John, speaking directly from his home, reports The Mirror.

"Thank you, everyone," he gratefully added before signing off.

"Aw, congratulations," Clara responded warmly. "Our forever fave, Elton John."

But Alex had more up her sleeve; later on, she invited Lenny Rush to the set to dish out details about the BAFTAs.

The young actor revealed the name of the celebrated figure receiving the highest tribute from BAFTA this year.
