The One Show's Lauren Laverne 'inundated' with support from BBC stars after cancer diagnosis
Lauren Laverne has been 'inundated' with support from her colleagues and other stars, after revealing that she's been diagnosed with cancer and will be taking some time away from the spotlight.
Sunderland born DJ and presenter Lauren first shot to fame in the mid 90s as a member of indie girl group Kenickie, before then being the vocalist on Mint Royale's Don't Falter and forging a career as a TV host and radio star, hosting shows on screen and across the airwaves for decades now, including Top of the Pops and Glastonbury.
On Wednesday, the now 46-year-old, who currently fronts BBC Radio 6 Music breakfast and Radio 4's Desert Island Discs. took to Instagram to announce that she has cancer, sharing a selfie from a hospital bed and writing: "I recently had a cancer diagnosis. It was (thank God) caught early and unexpectedly during a screening test and I am expected to make a full recovery."

She continued: "I’m in hospital at the moment and wanted to take this moment to say thank you: Firstly to the medical teams who have got me this far with incredible skill and kindness. To my family and friends who have been absolutely extraordinary every step of the way - I am so very grateful and love you so much."
Lauren was also quick to thank her BBC colleagues for their support and for giving her the time off she needs and it didn't take long at all for many of them to send messages of support. Fellow BBC presenter Gabby Logan responded: "Sending you all the love and positive healing Lauren," while Lauren's One Show co-host Roman Kemp simply replied with a heart emoji and Line of Duty's Vicky McClure wrote: "Send love and speedy healing"
