The One Show's Matt Baker has passed on his well-wishes to former co-host Alex Jones, following her announcement that she's expecting her third child with husband Charlie Thomson.

The television presenter appeared virtually on the BBC programme yesterday evening (March 31) to talk about what he's been up to since he quit the series last year and, between chats about running his family farm, Matt made sure to send his congratulations to Alex too.

"It's so wonderful we can talk about your news publicly now which is marvellous," he said. "So, publicly, congratulations!"

Matt appeared on the show a year to the day that he hosted his final episode as a regular One Show presenter and he went on to say that he felt "a bit emotional" being on the show again, even if he wasn't technically in the studio.

"Hearing your voice, hearing the music at the start and just that general vibe," he began.

"It's incredible that I said goodbye on a laptop propped up on an ironing board a year ago today and now I get to welcome you all to the Durham Dales because that's the reason why I'm talking tonight because I've got this new show starting."

Titled Matt Baker: Our Farm in the Dales, the series centres on Matt and his wife Nicola as they try to balance their professional and personal lives after they unexpectedly had to take over the business and care for Matt's parents.

"It's basically all about our family farm and the situation, really, that I found myself in to be honest with you, not long after lockdown," Matt, who also directed the series, explained.

"The whole family are involved," he continued. "We knew we needed to reshape the farm and in its essence, at the heart of this programme, it's all about how the tables turn when we're at the certain stage in our family lives where we end up looking after our parents in the same way that they looked after us.

"And, we had an absolute joy making it and it really was a dream."

The One Show airs Mondays through Fridays at 7pm on BBC One.
