Known for her voluptuous curves, former The Only Way Is Essex star Gemma Collins started 2025 by unveiling a strikingly slimmed down look and sharing a “secret” she’d been keeping from fans.

Taking to Instagram, she showcased her body transformation, revealing that she has dropped two dress sizes and is finally on the path to living her “best life” without the constant burden of trying to lose weight.

The reality TV star then surprised her 2.2 million followers by announcing she had partnered with a company called Yazen, which provides weight-loss injections alongside 24/7 support from a team of medical specialists, The Mirror reports.

“This is it—I’ll finally be free,” she declared. “I will finally be able to live my best life and just be free from all that upset and stress and turmoil that comes with constantly trying to lose excess weight.”

Gemma, who rose to fame on The Only Way Is Essex, has endured cruel online taunts about her weight ever since her rise to stardom in 2011. Here, we take a closer look at some of the controversial weight-loss methods she has explored over the years.

Over the years Gemma, who turns 44 this month, has talked about seeing a hypnotist, consuming only liquids, and adopting a fibre-only diet, which she said helped her lose 20lbs in one week. She's also regularly shared fitness and health updates, with videos of herself working out in the garden of her Essex barn conversion.

She reportedly lost around 3st between 2019 and 2024, and revealed she was even considering trying for a baby with her fiancé Rami Hawash. Now, her motivation for slimming down is a desire to be healthy and happy, according to a source who told The Mirror: "It isn’t about looking good on her wedding day or anything, she’s doing this for herself.”

Most fans have complimented her new look - which includes a feathered fringe. But some have expressed shock, with one writing: “Here we go - another celebrity joining the trend." "As soon as you stop you put it all back ON," exclaimed another.

A few others questioned what happened to her recent fibre-first approach, which Gemma claimed was the answer to all her weight woes, when she worked with health coach Steve Bennett, author of The Fibre First Diet, last summer.

But Gemma, who got engaged to Rami just over a year ago, said she was working with Yazen to “manage her weight responsibly” through approved medication and with support from a team, including doctors, psychologists, dieticians and others.

While the results were clear for all to see, nutritionist and personal trainer Niki Woods says anyone considering taking GLP-1 injections needs to consider very carefully what they’re doing to their body.

“Any way of eating which drastically reduces your calorie intake - and especially anything which reduces it dramatically below your needs - is likely to lead to significant loss of lean muscle," she said.

"Anyone using GLP-1 injections (or any other weight loss method) should focus on the quality of their nutrition, especially ensuring they get enough protein, and should weight train following a regular, progressive programme, to ensure they're giving their body the best chance to preserve precious muscle."

But our source says Gemma has done her homework and considers the medication more of a life-changing fix than a quick one.

“She’s done all her research and she’s doing it properly with people around her who know what they’re talking about,” they claimed. “Issues come up for some people when they’re not taking the injections with the right guidance and expert help, but Gemma’s doing it all properly and she’s given it a lot of thought.

“She’s still absolutely all about body positivity and embracing her body, there’s no change in that, but she wants to be healthy as well.” Gemma opened up in her video about the emotional toll her dieting has taken in the past, and said she’d suffered years of “being bullied and tortured” for her appearance.

“I feel like a massive weight’s been lifted off my shoulders because I’ve finally found something that works for me…. The struggle is real," she said. "Only if you’re overweight do you know the struggle, you know the downfalls, you know what you go through.”
