You’ll spend eight days touring elegant Italian ornamental gardens in October 2021, wandering around their genteel lawns and experiencing them bathed in the early autumn sunshine, as the first seasonal colours start to appear.

Join Adam Frost in the Italian lakes

On the trip, Adam Frost, one of Britain’s best-loved TV gardeners and presenter of BBC's Gardeners' World, will join you for two days as you visit the area’s finest gardens.

Winner of seven gold medals at Chelsea Flower Show and author of numerous gardening books, Adam will answer all your questions during a morning Q&A session. He will also accompany you on a day trip to the Borromean Islands of Isola Bella and the ‘island of fishermen’ Isola Pescatori, with its picturesque harbour and winding cobbled streets.

Visit unique gardens in a peaceful setting

After travelling from Milan to Stresa, you’ll spend an evening settling into the Hotel Regina Palace on the tranquil shores of Lake Maggiore.

On your second day in Italy you’ll be joined by Adam Frost as you experience a totally different view of the lake on a private boat to Cannobio.

At Isola Bella, he’ll highlight the outstanding features of the magnificent baroque palace and terraced gardens, inspired by the ‘Hanging Gardens of Babylon’. They feature fragrant citrus trees, magnolias, marble statues and white peacocks wandering the grounds.

Venture to Switzerland to check out the Alpine scenery

During your stay in the Italian lakes, you’ll travel by coach to the chic Swiss resort of Locarno to board the narrow gauge Centovalli Railway for a spectacularly scenic ride through the mighty Alps. From the train’s panoramic carriages, you’ll see the valley’s wild, romantic landscapes, with vines, chestnut woods and villages clinging to the mountainsides.

You’ll also spend a day in the beautiful Swiss village of Zermatt. Sitting at the foot of the legendary Matterhorn, its cluster of chalets and wooden farm huts sits amid pastures of wildflowers, surrounded by dramatic mountain peaks.

Here, you may can take the cog railway 3,000 metres up the slopes of the Matterhorn, take a scenic ride in a horse-drawn carriage, or simply relax in one of the village's charming cafes.

Of course, these are just a few of the highlights on the once-in-a-lifetime holiday.
