The Open 2019 LIVE: Shane Lowry wins title with six-shot victory to seal famous first major championship

Follow the latest updates live from the final round at The Open as Shane Lowry attempts to defend a four-shot lead to claim his first major.

Brutal weather conditions have set in on Portrush, but there is currently no shaking Lowry as he recovered from an opening hole bogey with back-to-back birdies, before another at seven moved him to -18, giving him a six-shot lead over Tommy Fleetwood as they both dropped shots at the following hole. After ending the back nine with bogeys at eight and nine, Lowry saw his lead return to six when Fleetwood bogeyed the 10th.

As the deluge of rain fell from the sky in horrible conditions, both Lowry and Fleetwood wobbled early on the back nine. But the rain soon stopped and Lowry picked up where he left off the continue his march towards his maiden major title. Follow the live updates below.
