Open Championship weather: Carnoustie forecast for golf's third major of the year

The biggest names in world golf are in Carnoustie ahead of The Open Championship as Jordan Spieth bids to defend the crown he won in breathtaking style in 2017.

Spieth staged a back-nine fightback to win by three shots ahead of Matt Kuchar at Royal Birkdale and now has his sights set on more Major glory at the 147th Open.

Carnoustie has been unusually short of rain in the months building up to the tournament and the wet weather is expected to stay away over the coming days.

The course's Links Superintendent Sandy Reid said: “The course is really dried out because we’ve had only half the usual amount of rain over the past three months.

“Players will need to be able to control the way the ball runs. They will really need to study that, try to work out where it will stop rather than where it will carry.

“They will really have to think their way around.”
