Lidl has announced an opening date for their highly-anticipated new shop in Wells. The new shop - which is double the size of its predecessor - will open on Thursday, January 30 on Strawberry Way.

The new branch had been set to open in February. But work on the shop was completed earlier than expected.

Glen Stidever, Regional Head of Property at Lidl GB, said: “We’re thrilled to announce the opening of our new and improved store here in Wells. Not only is this store almost double the size, but it also remains in a prominent and accessible location within the town, ensuring residents still have convenient access to our affordable offering. We’d like to thank everyone for their patience during the construction process - we can’t wait to welcome our customers back and we’re confident they’ll love the upgrades as much as we do.”

As nothing is quite so motivational as free food, Lidl will be offering free samples across the opening weekend as well as Lidl Plus offers. Not only is the shop itself larger, it also has a larger car park with more accessible parking spaces for disabled customers. The new Lidl also boasts charging stations for electric cars and customer toilets with baby-changing facilities.

The local economy also stands to benefit as 20 new jobs have been created by the new branch. This will include some employees who worked at the previous Lidl, which was demolished in 2024 after almost thirty years in business.

The new Lidl at Strawberry Way will be open from 8am to 9pm, Monday to Saturday, and 10am to 4pm on Sundays.
