Ophelia Winds Spray Water Across Spelga Dam in County Down

High winds brought by ex-Hurricane Ophelia whipped up waves and sprayed water across the Spelga Dam in County Down, Northern Ireland, on October 16.

The storm killed at least three people further south in the Republic of Ireland, as well as causing severe damage to property, disrupting ground and air travel, and leaving hundreds of thousands without power.

Met Éireann, the Irish weather service, warned that Ophelia was likely to be the most severe weather event to hit the country in over 50 years. Credit: Ryan Simpson via Storyful
