With the men’s football season eventually at an end and talk starting to turn to Wimbledon, it’s beginning to feel more like June – and so too is the weather. Hurray..?

Temperatures are already in the high 20s in London, and are forecast to reach a high of 34C on Friday.

There are likely to be familiar images across the media of people having ‘fun in the sun’, lounging on beaches and in parks, drinking cold beers, and dropping Flakes from melting ice cream cornets.

The reality for those who’ve been longing to rediscover their summer wardrobe is they’ll probably enjoy the hot weather in moderation as opposed to rushing to kick around in the nearest water fountain like they’re in the title sequence of Friends.

For others, the sunny extremes are an altogether unwelcome arrival, shutting windows and curtains to keep the heat out, and fighting through storage space to pull out a fan. Perhaps this will even be the final persuasion for the WFH crew to get back to the office. Two words: air con.

On a more serious note, a health alert comes into place on Friday. There is good advice for us all to follow, and health chiefs flag the importance of “checking on those who are most vulnerable, such as older people and those with heart or lung conditions.”

One thing we can all agree on: we know it won’t last. There’s rain forecast this weekend.
