Supporters of Ecuadorian opposition politician Guillermo Lasso marched through Guayaquil on April 5 after Lasso argued that electoral fraud had helped his opponent, socialist candidate Lenin Moreno, win the country’s recent presidential election.
Exit polls had indicated a win for Lasso, but after more than 99 percent of the votes were counted, Moreno had secured a 51 percent majority. The electoral commission rejected Lasso’s claims and Moreno was confirmed as the winner on April 4.
However, on April 5, Lasso called for a nationwide recount, according to the AP.
