Here’s What Oprah Thinks of Meghan Markle’s Decision to Keep the Baby’s Birth Private

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s first child is due any day now, and while we were initially bummed that the royal couple decided to keep the birth deets private, Oprah Winfrey is taking an entirely different perspective.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, the 65-year-old media mogul talked about Baby Sussex and revealed that she applauds the soon-to-be parents’ decision.

“Oh, my God! I’m so proud of her decisions,” she said. “To be able to stand up and say, ‘This is what I really want for my baby and my family, and now I’m going to do it a different way when it’s been done that way for a thousand years?’”

The media mogul went on to say that she admires Markle for upholding her own traditions, adding, “I’m just so proud of her for being able to stand [up for] what works for her and Harry, and what is the truth for them, how they want to raise their baby.”

Earlier this month, Kensington Palace officials announced that Markle won’t pose for photos directly after the child’s birth—a decision that Winfrey fully supports.

“Who is ready to walk out and stand before the world and put that face on, you know, a day after you’ve had a baby?” she added. “So, I think for her and him, I’m sure it was a mutual decision for the two of them—I think it’s a great thing.”

The A Wrinkle in Time star will likely be involved in the baby’s life, considering she already bought him/her a gift: a hand-carved bookcase similar to the one that she gave to Mindy Kaling’s daughter, Katherine.
