Oprah Winfrey Earned $12Million From One Tweet

Ooft, it’s alright for some.

It has been reported that Oprah Winfrey earned a whopping $12million by sending just one tweet on her social media account.

The media star is a shareholder in Weight Watchers and shared a short video message about losing 26 pounds without cutting bread from her diet - and fans were so impressed that shares in the brand increased by 18% within an hour.

Wow.

Oprah owns $6million worth of shares in Weight Watchers and, according to Market Watch, the increase saw shareholders earn about $2.10 per share.

The impressive tweet was posted yesterday and the message accompanying the video simply read: “Eat bread. Lose weight. Whaaatttt? #ComeJoinMe [sic]”.

In the clip, Oprah explains: “I lost 26 pounds, and I have eaten bread every single day.”

Despite raking in the dollars, the 61-year-old star won’t be able to cash in on her profit yet as she would have to sell her shares in order to get the money.

This isn’t the first time that Oprah’s profile has seen the company’s share price grow, with it rising by a $100 after she first joined Weight Watchers back in October, and growing even more later than month when she talked to Ellen DeGeneres about her weight loss success on the programme.

Oprah bought 10% of the organisation’s shares for around $43.2million.
