OpTic Gaming, FaZe Clan already knocked out of Call of Duty World League Stage 2 finals

Two of the mightiest Call of Duty teams in the world are already out of the North American Stage 2 playoffs.

Top seed OpTic Gaming fell in the first round 3-4 to seventh seed Luminosity, a team that didn’t even have a winning record during the regular season of Stage 2. Meanwhile, third seed FaZe Clan fell to sixth seed Dream Team.

The upset comes on the heels of OpTic’s first-place finish at the Stage 1 playoffs back in April. The heavily favored squad was expected to stomp through most of the competition, only potentially slowed down by FaZe, who they would have met in the semifinals of the NA bracket. Now, it’s anyone’s tournament.

The North American teams are playing for their share of $250,000 of the $600,000 total prize pool. Meanwhile, Europe is playing for $200,000 and Australia is playing for $150,000. The three tournaments are all taking place in Burbank, CA, and will be happening all weekend. Yahoo Esports will be at the event Sunday to cover the action.
