Oribe Canales death: Celebrity hairstylist who worked with Jennifer Lopez and Kate Moss dies aged 62

Celebrity hairstylist Oribe Canales, who worked with stars including Jennifer Lopez and Kate Moss, has died aged 62.

Multiple US publications report that the legendary Cuban-born stylists died on Monday, with a company spokeswoman confirming the sad news.

Close friend Mary Greenwell was among the first to pay tribute to Canales, who founded his own brand Oribe, sharing an image of the two together.

The make-up artist wrote: “I am devastated to hear that my darling friend and work companion has past away. ORIBE is one of the great ‘original’ hairdressers whose iconic status grew along side the supermodels of the 80’ and 90’.

“He was a brilliant hairdresser and simply adored by all. I so looked forward to the days that I would be with him and the teams we had around us.

“I am so sad you are gone our beautiful Oribe. The world of fashion and beauty has lost a great soul, and we will mourn that you have left us all behind while you have gone straight to heaven.”

Emily Ratajkowski also paid tribute to the late industry expert, telling him to “rest in power” as she hailed him the “king of hair”.

Canales first shot to fame in the 1980s, working with supermodels including Moss, Naomi Campbell and Linda Evangelista at shows.

The hairdresser, who divided his time between Miami and New York, then went on to work with celebrities including Cher, Barbra Streisand and Ashley Graham.

He had also worked with Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, during her career as an actress. He shared a photo of the two of them together on Instagram to celebrate her wedding day in May 2018.
