The CW's Charmed reboot could potentially connect to the original universe by resurrecting Julian McMahon's evil Balthazar.

Speaking to TV Guide at the Television Critics Association winter press tour, the actor shared his thoughts on reprising his fan-favourite character – even though he's yet to watch any of the new episodes.

"I haven't seen the new Charmed," confessed McMahon, "but I loved the old one."

On the possibility of a return, he noted: "Look, you know, it was a great show for me. When I first signed on to that show, I think it was, like, six episodes or something, and I ended up staying for three years.

"So, that's how much I enjoyed being on the show, and I loved playing that character. So if I had the opportunity to do that again, I would."

In case you needed reminding, the last we saw of demon Balthazar was in season 7 of the original show.

After being wiped out in season 5, he appeared in spirit form, forced to exist in some sort of purgatorial plane for his crimes.

Could the reboot break him out of this place to wreak havoc once more?

Charmed airs on The CW.
