Original Sugababes reclaim name and release new music

Original Sugababes Mutya Buena, Keisha Buchanan and Siobhan Donaghy are back together and have unveiled a new track.

The song, Flowers, has been released under the trio’s name after they regained the right to call themselves the Sugababes.

Buena, Buchanan and Donaghy got together in the 90s and were the original Sugababes, but after Donaghy left in 2001 they went through several line-up changes, losing the right to perform and make music under their name along the way.

Their new music now appears on DJ Spoony’s album Garage Classical, credited as “featuring Sugababes”.

Buena posted on Instagram: “Ladies .....and..... gents BoyS and Girls FLOWERS is out NOW.”

“Make sure u go grab the album peeps its FAAAAAB,” she added.

“THANK U FOR ALL THE SUPPORT GUYS WE REALLY APPRECIATE THE LOVE.”

Sugababes burst onto the music scene with their single Overload back in 2000.

Donaghy left the group the following year amid rumours of bad blood, and former Atomic Kitten star Heidi Range took over her spot.

More changes followed, with both Buena and Buchanan eventually leaving and Amelle Berrabah and Jade Ewen taking over.

When Buchanan departed in 2009 there were no original Sugababes remaining in the group.

The original trio eventually got back together under the name Mutya Keisha Siobhan, and it was reported at the time that Buena had applied to get the band’s name back.

While they did not officially announce that they had reclaimed their name, fans guessed it might be happening this summer when Buena told The Sun they had something in the pipeline.

“We’re working on new music and have a secret project that should be made public later this year,” she teased.

“Plus we are working on something special for our fans that is coming out for our 20th anniversary.”
