New Orleans College Student Gets Degree in Hospital Day After Giving Birth

After going into labor and being unable to attend her formal graduation, a college student was presented her degree with a special ceremony the day after at a hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana, on May 15.

Video recorded at the hospital shows Dillard University President Dr Walter Kimbrough conferring a degree to criminal justice student Jada Sayles, as the newborn is heard crying in the background.

“You may now approach the bed and receive your degree,” Kimbrough says in the video.

“I thought I was gonna walk across the stage to get my degree,” Sayles tweeted that day. “Instead I got my baby.” Credit: Jada Sayles via Storyful
