Jimmy Kimmel mocked Donald Trump by live-tweeting him mid-ceremony at the Oscars.

This year’s host wasn’t pulling any punches as he got out his phone live on stage during Sunday night’s ceremony and sent a tweet to the President of the United States.

The Late Night host, who continually referenced Trump throughout the event, decided to directly contact him about Best Actress nominee Meryl Streep.

Using the President’s favourite social media platform, Kimmel wrote “Hey @realDonaldTrump u up?' followed by “@realDonaldTrump #Merylsayshi.”

The tweet got over 100,000 retweets in just five minutes.

He added: “I want to say thank you to President Trump... remember last year when it seemed the Oscars were racist? That's gone, thanks to him.”

Mentioning Streep in his opening monolgue, Kimmel referenced Trump’s comments about her being ‘overrated’.

“One actress has stood the test of time for her many uninspiring and overrated performances is Meryl's 20th Oscar nomination... she wasn't even in a movie this year, we just wrote her name in out of habit,” he said.

“Nice dress by the way... Is that an Ivanka,” he added.

Kimmel continued: “Some of you will get to come up here on this stage tonight and give a speech that the President of the United States will tweet about in all caps during his 5:00 a.m. bowel movement tomorrow, and I think that’s pretty darn excellent if you ask me.”

Trump recently tweeted to say that he wouldn’t be watching this year’s Oscars last week.

This year’s ceremony saw wins for Emma Stone and Casey Affleck, while La La Land was mistakenly announced as Best Picture, despite the fact that Moonlight had won.
