Oscars 2017: The best Twitter reactions to THAT Best Picture gaffe
In spite of all of the political statements, gushing acceptance speeches and hilarious gimmicks, there is just one part of last night’s Oscars that people can not stop talking about this morning:
La La Land being wrongly announced as the winner of Best Picture instead of Moonlight.
Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway took to the stage to present the biggest award of the night, giving the accolade to the musical that won Emma Stone the Best Actress Academy Award earlier that evening.
However, after two full minutes of La La Land basking in glory, they were interrupted mid-acceptance speech to be told that actually, Moonlight had won.
SO AWKWARD.
The La La Land team graciously stepped aside, with lead actor Ryan Gosling even being caught giggling like a schoolchild over the blunder, and needless to say – viewers at home were giggling with him.
In fact, Twitter exploded as people reacted to the mistake, with some even drawing comparisons between the mistake and La La Land’s bittersweet ending:
Ironically, the #Oscars ended a lot like #LalaLand — with a dream-like glimpse of what could have been. But turned out not to be.

The Academy have since accepted responsibility for the blunder, with it appearing that Beatty and Dunaway were given the envelope for Best Leading Actress, which La La Land won, instead of Best Picture.
Emma Stone since insisted that she had the envelope that announced her name as the winner for the award, but it is understood that the Academy have two of each envelope backstage.
