Oscars 2018 nominations – list in full: The Shape of Water leads pack, followed by Dunkirk and Three Billboards

After months of anticipation, this year’s Oscar nominations have finally been revealed with The Shape of Water leading the pack.

Guillermo del Toro’s monstrous romance picked up 13 nominations, including best picture, best director, and best leading actress for Sally Hawkins.

Dunkirk managed eight nominations – including a first best director nomination for Christopher Nolan – while the Golden Globes-dominating Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri scooped seven.

To perhaps some surprise, Darkest Hour and Phantom Thread both picked up six nominations.

Blade Runner 2049 and Lady Bird got five each, while Get Out – a favourite among moviegoers – has four nominations, as do Call Me by Your Name, Mudbound, and Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Steven Spielberg’s timely The Post was expected to pick up more nominations, although did manage a best picture nod. Meryl Streep also received a nomination for the newspaper drama – her 17th leading actress nomination and 21st overall.

Streep faces stiff competition from Frances McDormand, who is expected to take home the award for Three Billboards. Two of her co-stars, Woody Harrelson and Sam Rockwell, are both nominated for best supporting actor.

The Shape of Water also picked up two nods for supporting roles, Richard Jenkins and Octavia Spencer gaining nominations for best supporting actor and actress respectively.

The 90th Academy Awards marks the first time a woman has been nominated for cinematography, Rachel Morrison picking up a nomination for Mudbound.

Greta Gerwig has become the fifth woman to ever be nominated for best director, Lady Bird marking her directorial debut. Jordan Peele was also nominated for Get Out, the comedian’s first film as a director.

Tiffany Haddish and Andy Serkis announced the nominations, the Serkis-starring War for the Planet of the Apes picking up a nomination for best visual effects.
